How do I move my data to a new computer?

Windows 7, 8, and 10

  1. Start YuleLog on the old computer.

  2. Go to the Utilities Menu from the Main Menu.

  3. Click on the Save Backup Files buttons. This will create a file called backup.fmp12. This file will be saved in the YuleLog folder which should be in the Documents folder.

  4. Copy this file to a flash drive. On your new computer, install YuleLog, using your newest DVD, as if it were a first time installation. When ever it asks, tell the installer that this is new installation. YuleLog MUST be installed in the Documents folder or else you will receive a "File is Not Modifiable" error.

  5. When you get to the screen that asks where you want to install, click on the Browse button. Select Users. Then Select your directory (could be your name) It is whatever name you use to sign in to your computer. Select Documents. Click continue and this should install YuleLog in your Documents folder.

  6. Copy the backup file from the flash drive to the YuleLog folder which again should be in the Documents folder.

  7. Start YuleLog, again answering the question as if this were a first time installation.

  8. Fill out the name and address form and then at the Licensed to screen, click on the Utilities button.

  9. Click on the Restore From Back Up Files button. Follow the onscreen instructions and your backup files should be restored.

Yes, after a few months we finally found the answer. Sadly, Mike is on vacations right now so I'm afraid we are not able to provide the answer at this point.

Why am I getting a "File is not modifiable" error?

This error indicates that Yulelog is not installed in the correct location. YuleLog must be installed in the Documents folder on Windows 7, 8, or 10 or else you will receive this error message.

Please see the section on Windows Installation and make sure you are following the steps closely!
